Regrettably most urban gardens in Adelaide are underused, particularly in respect to growing food. Landimpact seeks to address this imbalance by informing customers about food growing options and ideas that can be applied in their garden.
So what is a productive garden? A simple explanation might be a garden where the plants provide a return on your investment in the form of food. There are lots of other benefits though and they include;
- food security in economic downturns
- less reliance on buying fruit and veg
- lowering your ecological footprint
- home grown produce can be organic and chemical free
- generally fresher and tastier than bought produce
- multiple health benefits with growing your own
- we like to incorporate native bush foods/pollinator plants to encourage beneficial insects and local wildlife
Following discussion of food growing options and some initial design considerations, Landimpact can assist with;
- existing soil analysis to determine any contamination/deficiencies via soil (lab) test and any recommendations
- vegetable and herb garden installation including raised beds
- minor landscaping and/or drainage alterations in existing gardens to suit any changes
- ongoing maintenance of veggie gardens including weeding, fertilising, seasonal replanting including crop rotation to reduce soil borne diseases
- composting (your food and green waste), options and advice
- fruit trees and edible native plants - options, sourcing, layout, planting and ongoing maintenance
- irrigation to suit all types of food production
- protection and shelters from birds/possums etc
- greenhouses to extend your food production out of season and grow your own seedlings
There are so many benefits from growing your own food if not just a sense of empowerment! We want to assist in this process and provide the necessary advice, support and direction to bring this alive and work closely with our customers to ensure the best possible outcomes
