Clematis microphylla (Old Mans Beard), is a useful and showy, native climbing plant for screens/trellis. In this application it has been intentionally planted at the base of  this eucalypt, to provide interest and contrast amongst the gum flowers and foliage as well as attracting nectar feeding birds. Other native climbers which can be used in similar applications include Thysanotus patersonii (Twining Fringe Lily), Hardenbergia violacea (Native Lilac), Billardiera cymosa (Sweet Apple-berry) and Glycine rubiginosa (Twining Glycine)
